Crunch Time!

Monday, August 30th, 2010

Well, August is nearly over now and that means the September – October crunch is on.  We are a mere 61 days away from Halloween now.

I have a to-do list of things to finish up by the end of September so I can start the set up process in October.

Here is what I really  need to finish by October 1st:

Spider Scene:

  • Finish Spider Egg Sacs
  • Build one new webbed up victim

Torture Scene:

  • Build a Rack
  • Build a Wheel
  • Build a Chair
  • Build Stocks

Misc Stuff:

  • Repair the Skeletal Organist’s mechanism
  • Assess older props and repair as needed

That’s what I need to get done to ensure the plans I have for this year are implemented.  I may do other stuff in addition to the aforementioned, but that will all be considered a bonus.

Skeletal Organist Mechanism

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

It’s raining today and that puts a hold on my painting operation for now.

The next project on my list is the skeletal organist.  I have an organ I got for free on Craigslist and I want to have a bucky skeleton sitting at it “playing” a song.  I need to think about how I will make the arms move.  I don’t really need the hands to touch the keys or anything, but I do want the arms to have some amount of up-and-down motion to them.

To do this, I was thinking that I don’t really need the entire skeleton.  The skeleton will be wearing a costume, so the only visible parts will be his head, hands and his feet.  This frees me up to devise just about anything I want mechanically to achieve the movement I need.

I’m going to spend the afternoon drinking beer, brainstorming, and researching how I can do this.  :)

Anyone with any ideas or links is welcome to chime in.
